Baseball

Finally, Baseball is back. My AZ D-Backs opened with a win. Totally reasonable.

Go D-Backs and Go Brewers!

Totally Unreasonable

Once in a while you see or receive something that just seems totally unreasonable. This was forwarded to me I believe as a justification for what is being spent on the war. As I have clearly stated that I think the war needs to end, I only include this because I have also been vocal in my displeasure with our government officials in regard to illegal immigrants.

I cannot verify these facts (and contend nobody can, but still this seems plausible.) Look at the links and see what you think. I tried to verify item #7 below randomly. What is actually written in the transcript at the link is, "30 percent of federal prisoners are not U.S. citizens." In the interpretation reprinted below, it is said that 30% are illegal aliens. Those two statements are not consistent. Still, I present the urls and statements to cause discussion. Please beware of the transcriber's work.

Bush the Third

Even the down turn in the down turn of violence (that equals an upturn in recent violence) in Iraq isn't hurting McCain too bad because of the ridiculous Democrats. Bush's third term, served by John McCain is on its way. Say goodbye to 12 Billion per month of our tax dollars and many more thousands of American lives. Say hello to Iran. Say hello to illegal immigrants running amok in our communities, speaking Spanish and receiving services for which they have not paid.

I saw Al Gore's name surface yesterday with a picture of him looking all fat and happy. I think if the Clinton and Obama show had digressed this far back in January, Al would have hopped in. Now he would be trashing about 12 million votes already cast by Dems around the country. That wouldn't sit well with anyone. Too late Al!

Barack Obama should have let his speech on race stand as it was (as it was terrific) but now the pundits, media, etc. have badgered him into denouncing the nut job Jeremiah Wright even more. Barack conveniently now says that he would have left the church had the Reverend not resigned. I hope this crazy pandering doesn't diminish the gist of the great speech - racism needs to be stopped. Whites hating Blacks, Blacks hating Whites, Whites/Blacks hating Jews and Latinos, etc. are all destructive. Racism is alive and well.

Please don't confuse my earlier rant about illegal immigrants as racism. Note the word ILLEGAL. I have no problems with those who come to the U.S. legally and embrace the language.

Once again, welcome to the 3rd Reign of George.

McCain is Looking Up

The best thing for John McCain is for the democrats to continue down the road they are on. In early March I predicted that the two candidates for the Dem nomination would take the negative road, thus helping John McCain.

So it comes to pass: Hillary makes up a story about a trip to Bosnia, stating that she arrived and had to negotiate her way through bullets and other terrible dangers. Apparently the video tape of her arrival doesn't support such a story. So she says she made a mistake. Is she kidding?

Then Hillary, since she is under fire for lying, decides she can't continue to lay0ff the Rev. Jeremiah and Barack saga. Is she pandering to some Republicans, hoping to get their vote? After all, not all of us Republicans think staying in Iraq is a good idea so John McCain is a bit scary. Plus, you just know he is going to dream us some amnesty program for illegal immigrants, or as he refers to them - undocumented citizens.

Oh yea, let us not forget that whoever gets the Dem nomination will have to give up 2-3% to Ralph Nader.

John - be patient, and the Democrats will do the work for you. Also, John try not to confuse Iran and Al Qaeda in Iraq. You look and sound like a doddering old man when you do that; at least you don't have that "deer in the headlight" look of George W. Bush.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

My recollection is that the Phoenix newspaper used to proclaim that in the past. Apparently the liberal press has had enough religion for the week and couldn't bring themselves to wish us a Happy Easter.

80-90% of the population is Christian but they still couldn't print it I guess. Totally unreasonable, not because I care if they print "Happy Easter" but because the editors apparently feel PC pressures to not print it.

I have no such pressures, so ----Happy Easter!

Jeremiah Wright

Jeremiah Wright and the current leaders of Senator Obama's church must really want Hillary to win the nomination or John McCain to win the presidential election. You would think they would have enough sense to shut up while they are behind.

Church

The logic being espoused that Barack Obama didn't do enough to disavow Pastor Jeremiah Wright, including advocating that he should have left his church, is fascinating. Given that thinking, how can there be any Catholics left in this country? Thousands of supposedly celibate priests molested many more thousands of kids; kids whose lives were ruined. Where are the white folk adamantly saying everyone should leave the Pope and his merry band of child rapists? Well, where are you?

Where were the fine citizens of Colorado (and I am sure a good number of these folks at the New Life Church are good Repubicans) when terrible Ted Haggerty was caught with his pants down with a male homosexual? They were trying to figure out how to distance themselves without dissing him. Then after 3 months, Ted was "cured" of his weakness. What? Are you kidding?

As usual partisan politics and deep seated prejudices make it nearly impossible for people of all color to look at issues critically.

Barack on Race

First, I am a card carrying member of the Republican party. I have been disappointed over the last many years in the candidates put forward by both parties. However, in the case of the Republicans, I think we should be able to do much better. I have been lamenting in this blog that there are no leaders - statesmen - if you will. I write all of this to put my next comments in context.

Barack Obama's speech on race in America was both fascinating and spot on. He dealt with an issue that politicians in my lifetime have chosen to ignore or say doesn't matter. Race issues clearly matter as they effect all areas of our lives. I thought that Senator Obama clearly outlined how.

I am not a student of great speeches in American history; John Kennedy (Ask not.....,) Martin Luther King (I have a dream.....), etc. come to mind. I can say this: In my adult life time and certainly in these campaigns, this is the most sweeping speech I have heard in regard to race in this country.

Whether this will make people vote for him or not, I do not know. But if you listen to the speech and try to find something to make you mad, you will find it - and that is regardless if you are Black or White. Listen to the entire speech, consider it in the whole, and marvel at the honest and direct approach.

We are always lamenting in this country that politician never really say what they think. Senator Obama just did. The only reasonable course of action is to consider the words and see if we can inch forward toward that ideal of a perfect nation.

Money Changers

A couple of weeks ago I posted to this site and asked, "where are the leaders?" CHuntington commented by posting a speech from Franklin D. Roosevelt. In my opinion, FDR was one of the great statesmen in America's history. I have thought about that speech each day that I read about the actions of the FED, actions designed to keep the U.S. economy from tanking. It is amazing how "on point" that speech is today. It is reprinted here - the highlighting is mine.

"In such a spirit on my part and on yours we face our common difficulties. They concern, thank God, only material things. Values have shrunken to fantastic levels; taxes have risen; our ability to pay has fallen; government of all kinds is faced by serious curtailment of income; the means of exchange are frozen in the currents of trade; the withered leaves of industrial enterprise lie on every side; farmers find no markets for their produce; the savings of many years in thousands of families are gone.More important, a host of unemployed citizens face the grim problem of existence, and an equally great number toil with little return. Only a foolish optimist can deny the dark realities of the moment.

Yet our distress comes from no failure of substance. We are stricken by no plague of locusts. Compared with the perils which our forefathers conquered because they believed and were not afraid, we have still much to be thankful for. Nature still offers her bounty and human efforts have multiplied it. Plenty is at our doorstep, but a generous use of it languishes in the very sight of the supply. Primarily this is because the rulers of the exchange of mankind’s goods have failed, through their own stubbornness and their own incompetence, have admitted their failure, and abdicated. Practices of the unscrupulous money changers stand indicted in the court of public opinion, rejected by the hearts and minds of men. True they have tried, but their efforts have been cast in the pattern of an outworn tradition. Faced by failure of credit they have proposed only the lending of more money. Stripped of the lure of profit by which to induce our people to follow their false leadership, they have resorted to exhortations, pleading tearfully for restored confidence. They know only the rules of a generation of self-seekers. They have no vision, and when there is no vision the people perish."

It is amazing how true this is today and only leads me to ask once again, and reasonably, "where are the leaders today?"

Again, no original thought here but gleaned from a funny email from a friend. Probably true....

Tax Rebate
President George Bush said each one of us would get a $600.00 tax rebate. It was previously slated to be $800.00, but they dropped it to a $600.00 tax rebate because of various budget problems.

Now, if we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China, if we spend it on computers, most of the money will go to Korea or India. If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs ..... and none of these scenarios will help the American economy. We need to keep that money here in America ....so the only way to keep that money here at home is to drink beer, gamble, and spend it on prostitution. Currently it seems that these are the only businesses still left in the U.S.

I'm Elliot Spitzer and I approve of this message...

Barack for President

In an earlier blog I expressed hope that we were turning a corner in this country when the very white folk of Iowa voted for Barack Obama in great numbers. However, based on the rhetoric from Barack's ex-pastor and the euphoria evident in Barack's church at his inflammatory anti-white statements, it doesn't seem likely that great progress has been made. Too bad.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAYe7MT5BxM

I trust that the pastor doesn't speak for the majority and will take Barack's word that he doesn't speak for the candidate either.

NY Governor

Today the Governor of NY will step down. Even a powerful elected official can't stand up to the scrutiny brought about because of his philandering.

$5,500 hooker? $80,000 total spent on said hooker(s)?

Wow.

P.s. How does his wife stand next to him? How did Larry Craig's wife stand next to him? The list goes on. Seems totally unreasonable to me.

Serbia

Being in America and focused on our own problems makes it difficult to understand the happenings in other parts of the world. Serbia's Prime Minister is dissolving his government and asking the President of Serbia to call new elections.

This revolves around the European Union, many members of which have backed Kosovo's independence move, and whether or not Serbia should in fact join the EU.

As a side note - apparently the Serbs can call for and hold an election in about 8 weeks since it is now scheduled for sometime in May.....2008.

Back to Serbia - my earlier post on this matter garnered response. I am curious as to how the commentors view this newest development?

I must admit that I don't understand what is reasonable in this situation.

Democrat's Primaries - Do Over

What is a voter to do? The current Bush regime has failed this country. The current, mandate-wielding, Democrat-led congress has failed this country. So as a voter you say, perhaps the next election will bring change. In fact change is a hot topic in the campaigns.

Remember when the citizens of Florida couldn't figure out how to vote, leading to the Supreme Court deciding the election in George's favor? This was the advent of the "hanging chad."

Now the citizens of Florida and Michigan want a "do-over" in their primaries. This is necessitated because the Democratic leaders in these states thwarted the rules and held their primaries in January - basically cutting in line. Thus the Democratic National Committee doesn't count the votes they cast. The complaining by Dems has started. They complain that if they truly are excluded, then millions of Michigan and Florida Democrats will go "un-heard."

Do we want to elect these people? They can't run an election - how can they run the country?

Where are the leaders in this country?

Waterboarding Veto

President Bush will veto the law making waterboarding and other "torture" illegal. I am with the president on this because they are terrorists. Period.

We need to know their information and should get it from them. I realize this is harsh, but it is a harsh world and the radical Muslims want to kill us.

I think it is reasonable to get the information from the nut jobs using whatever methods are necessary. I want the govenment to protect my country, my family, and, well frankly, me.

I Do Not Like Political Correctness, But....

Personally I think political correctness is out of control and is partially to blame for what is happening to the greatest country on earth.

Letting people vote in Spanish and other accomodations for non-English speakers is PC gone amok. All other immigrant groups learned the language so get with the program.

6 Imam's pray on an airplane, ask for new seats, and do other odd things prior to a flight and then claim they are being singled out because they are Muslims and the courts and media go along - that is political correctness gone amok.

Wanding an 80 year old woman in the airport while we let a 20 year old Arabic looking man with a towel of sorts on his head walk right on the plane is political correctness gone amok. (yes I know it is the, "Arabic looking" that is problematic, but it wasn't blond haired blue eyed guys flying airplanes into the twin towers, nor was the 80 year-old crowd.)

Calling illegal immigrants undocumented citizens is PC gone amok.

The list could be very long. However, some things just seem to me to be reasonable limits - not PC. Its my blog so I get to decide what I think is reasonable or not.

I think the "N" word is out. It serves no purpose other than to denigrate another person. I think a white bigot on the radio yakking about "nappy headed hos" serves no purpose, especially when the targets are outstanding student athletes at a prestigious university who are most likely smarter that Don Imus.

I certainly don't think a person should be denied housing, a job, opportunity because of color, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc. That isn't being PC, that is giving everyone an equal chance.

It is PC to keep a "protected" employee when they do something wrong because you don't want to be sued or accused of being racist, or an agist, or a sexist, or a homophobe, or a etc..

To what is all this leading?

Apparently a congressman from Iowa (on tape) stated that Al Qaida will be dancing in the streets if Barack Obama is elected president. This is not some ignoramus on the street - this is an ignorant elected official who serves in the same congress as Senator Obama.

Rep. Steve King (Republican from Iowa) thinks that because of Obama's stance on the war, plan to end the war, and, get this, because of his name and Kenyan heritage, terrorists will be ecstatic.
Now, one could argue that trying to get out of Iraq on the time frame Obama has stated might be viewed positively by the terrorists, but to say it is because of his name or heritage is nuts. In fact, the real problem isn't even that he said it, rather that he thought it. The people of Iowa elected this guy?

What an idiot, make that a bigoted unreasonable idiot.

And the Idiocy Goes On

Did you know that if a member of congress is convicted on an ethics related charge they will lose their pension? That is the case if they are convicted of a crime that was committed after they passed the law last year. If they are convicted of an ethics crime they committed prior to the 2007 law, then they get to keep the money - our money that is.

Apparently we have two congressman right now with this situation - the are being charged with crimes that, if convicted, will not result in their loss of pension because they performed the deed prior to the law's enactment. They are Arizona's Republican Rick Renzi and Louisianna's Democrat William Jefferson. (According to this brief study, it matters not whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, you can't play by the rules.)

Even more ridiculous is this tidbit: These ethics laws are for bribery, perjury, or conspiracy. Apparently murder or rape or the like is okay in congress because conviction on those charges will not result in a loss of pension. The congress must believe that an ethical person could kill or rape or maim.

The question is, "whatever happened to reasonableness?"

Some Days Just Push One to the Limit

The Bush administration is spending $42 million (yes, I mean million) to send us letters informing us that we are going to get a rebate of sorts on taxes. What could we have done with $42 million other than say, "I am trying to be a good president and fix the economy."

Mind you this $42 Million is not for sending the checks, just a sales pitch for our president's efforts.

I think it is reasonable to send Bush the bill.

McCain is In

Take a break John - you are going to need it. The best bet at this point is that Barack and Hillary keep going (they will), turn progressively negative (they will), and either turn off their voters with said negativity or embarrass themselves or each other terribly.

Clearly, after Texas and Ohio Hillary is still alive. If either of them runs the board from here out and wins with 65% of the vote, they will not have enough delegates to win. That will bring the mysterious Super Delegates into play. Wow. It has been a long time since any of the conventions mattered much. The Dem's is going to matter.

Sad Day for Cheeseheads Everywhere

It is a sad day for Cheeseheads and Green Bay Packer fans everywhere. Brett Favre has announced his retirement after 17 seasons. Amazingly Mr. Favre started in more than 270 straight games - every game the Pack played while he was on the team. His list of records is second to none but that doesn't matter. He came to play.

The Packers said this, "He has had one of the greatest careers in the history of the National Football League, and he is able to walk away from the game on his own terms. Not many players are able to do that. The Packers owe him a tremendous debt of gratitude. He has given Packers fans 16 years of wonderful memories, a Super Bowl championship among them, that will live on forever."

Amen brother!

Brett Favre, the football equivalent of a gunslinger, was simply a blast to watch. Even if you don't like the Packers or Favre, you have to admit that the man played the game with zest and enjoyment - he was like a little kid really. How refreshing in a time when professional athletes are acting like they are underpaid, under appreciated, stressed out people having trouble meeting their financial obligations on their measly millions.

It is perfectly reasonable to say, "thanks Brett."

Bonds and Clemens

Barry Bonds (large, hugely successful Black baseball player) and Roger Clemens (large, hugely successful White baseball player) are both in deep s _ _ t! The Congress, FBI, judicial system which apparently have nothing to do are going to get these cheaters and liars.

I wish these institutions were solving real problems instead, but I think it is reasonable to bring the cheats down. Kids shouldn't look up to these kinds of people, because the drugs they take turn them into freaks.

On a side note: It is reasonable to not want to hear any more about the authorities going after Barry Bonds only because he is black. Barry is one of the great hitters of all times and Roger is one of the great pitchers of all time and they are being treated equally.
